Carter Road Police Station

Inspector Shinde and Senior Inspector Joshi were leaving the police station with their team to reach the crime scene after receiving the phone call that informed them about a woman lying in a pool of blood at ‘Sky Heights.’

“Who had called?” Joshi asked Shinde. “Sir, she refused to reveal her identity but…” Shinde continued giving more details about the phone call to Senior Inspector Joshi. While Shinde was talking and as they drove to reach the crime scene, Joshi received a call on his cellphone. When Joshi saw the name flash on his mobile screen, he immediately picked it up.

“Yes sir”, Joshi said. The call was from Deputy Commissioner Vivek Jog.

“Actress Nisha Narang is found dead in the compound of her society, ‘Sky Heights’. Reach there at once.” Jog said.

“Sir, we are on our way,” Joshi said and disconnected the call. He looked at Shinde and said, “Shinde, the woman lying in the pool of blood at ‘Sky Heights’ is famous actress Nisha Narang.”

Nisha had taken her last breath after struggling for a few seconds. The day of her birth had become the day of her death.

Jog had received the news from Joint Commissioner of Crime. Film Financer Ranjit Wadhwa knew the Joint Commissioner well and he called to inform him about Nisha’s death. The news spread in the media like and in the Hindi Film Industry like wildfire. Senior police officers were obtaining as much information as they could about Nisha’s death.

Inspector Shinde and Senior Inspector Joshi had reached ‘Sky Heights’. Joshi gave the responsibility of taking statements of the people present at the party to Shinde. The guests at Nisha’s party had last seen her when she went into the living room with her father Mohandas. The minute Mohandas heard this name being mentioned, he said, “After the argument with Nisha, I had gone into my bedroom…”

The police found this case to be a case of suicide. But why would an extremely famous and successful actress commit suicide? The answer to this question was still to be found by the police. Inspector Joshi was speaking on a call with Deputy Commissioner Jog about the same issue.

“Sir, why would Nisha Narang commit suicide when she had everything in life that a normal human being would desire? We have to investigate further”, Joshi told Jog.

“Take the case on fast track. This is a high profile case. And send the body for post-mortem.” Saying this, Jog disconnected the call.

“I need to speak to Mr. Mohandas. I am Senior Inspector Shrikant Joshi from Carter Road Police Station.” Joshi had called at Nisha’s house. There was an urgency in his tone.

The servant took the cordless phone and ran to give it to Mohandas.

Mohandas had not come out of the trauma of losing his young and beautiful daughter so suddenly. He was getting irritated by the police interrogation.

“Hello…” Mohandas said lifelessly. Everything felt meaningless to him now.

“Sir, Senior Inspector Shrikant Joshi here…” Joshi said.

“I have already lost my daughter, sir. She is not going to come back. But please make sure that baseless rumours don’t spread about her death. I will be grateful to you if you can take care of that…”

But when Shrikant Joshi cut him short and said something, Mohandas could not believe it.  He was astonished. He couldn’t help but scream on the phone, “What…no…it is not possible! My daughter was…”
