5 Bollywood Stars Who Also Became Politicians

We have seen so many times that Bollywood actors have turned themselves into politicians now. There are many reasons for it. Their popularity plays a huge role as they are able to impact the lives of lots of people. We also see that there are actors who are versatile at both acting and politics.

Here are some stars who also got into rajneeti:

1) Rajesh Khanna:

Bollywood industry’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna, had acted in around 160 films. There was a time when he saw a downfall, a rough patch. This was the time when he decided to join politics in the year 1991. But this did not end well as the late actor was defeated by L.K.Advani while contesting for the New Delhi seat in the Lok Sabha election by a narrow margin. But he did not give up. In the next year, a by-election happened and won that defeating actor ‘Shatrughan Sinha’.

2) Sunil Dutt:

One of the best actors in the industry we had back then and with a clean political image. The late actor was not just good at acting but he was also a Congress MP for five consecutive times starting from 1984. Sunil Dutt is known for his helping nature starting from his tenure in 1984 with a very strong image. He did a lot of relief work and actually worked for the betterment of the people.

3) Jaya Prada:

A marvellous actress in her era, she has also acted in many regional language films. The actress started her political career in 2004 which went on till 2014. Being at the peak of one’s career and then leaving it is a very big thing. She did that. However, her politics ended in 2014 when she lost the elections.

4) Shabana Azmi:

Highly talented actress and daughter of poet Kaifi Azmi is a Member of the Rajya Sabha and also the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Population Fund. What comes more of a surprise is that she is the only actor in the industry who has received a nominated unelected membership from the President of India, for the Upper House of Parliament.

5) Hema Malini:

After her political tenure started in the year of 2003, when she contested for the Lok Sabha elections in Gurdaspur, Mathura campaigning for the BJP party, she was then nominated by the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as the ‘Member of Parliament’ to the Rajya Sabha. The ‘Dream Girl’ actress was appointed as the General Secretary of the BJP party. Baghban was one her last and very much successful movie after which we see her less on screen, as she entered politics. Hema Malini defeated Mathura’s ‘Jayant Chaudhary’ in the 2014 general elections.  Recently she was in the news as she said that if she wished she could easily become a chief minister but she wouldn’t as she loved her freedom of movement.
