India is a country that sounds synonymous to diversity. While a lot is known about India across the globe these are a few interesting facts about India that are not so known:
1. Heard of the Guinness Book of World Records? India ranks third in the number of records claimed by a country. United States of America and United Kingdom hold the first two positions.
2. Known for it’s love for cricket, India has the highest cricked ground in the world located in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. The ground built in 1894, is located at an altitude of approx. 2500 metres and is a part of the Chair Military School. During vacations, the ground is also used to play polo and it also houses a basketball court.
3. The Tirupathi Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh and the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Uttar Pradesh, get more visitors than Mecca and Vatican city combined every year! Both these temples, located in the Southern and Northern India are important places of worship and great attractions for people all over the globe.
4. The gathering of millions of people during Kumbh Mela is visible from space. Kumbh Mela , the name given to four fairs held at four places in India by rotation (Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain) is a gathering of millions of people after every 12 years.
5.Among the hundreds of things that were discovered and invented in India the most famous inventions include, zero, shampoo, pi, trigonometry, algebra, calculus, shirt buttons, discovery of water on moon, plastic surgery, diamond mining, cotton cultivation, chess, snakes and ladders, cataract surgery, wireless and radio communication etc. – the list is endless.
