5 Reasons Why Some Indians Should Not Travel At All

Damn! That headline hurts. But then does truth. Attention! You might get offended.

Some Indians know how to respect their surroundings and deserve to travel. But most of us, don’t. We simply should not get out of our own mohalla.

After several experiences of travel in India and abroad, I think there are these five reasons why those Indians who do these five things shouldn’t travel:

1. Kitna thukoge?

Man or woman, young or old, we just have to leave our spit on every road we walk on. Why? Aadat hai! Some people find it cool. They are not concerned about the filthiness their actions are causing at all. Some people spit after having paan. Maybe they loved the colour red as kids and never got to paint! Urgh!

2. Pura hindustan kachreka dibba hai!

Why do we litter everywhere? Water or land, train or bus, we litter, litter and litter. Why is it so hard to store the garbage in your bag until you come across a proper dustbin? These same people who litter everywhere wouldn’t even throw a minuscule piece of paper when they travel abroad and crib about how unhygienic and dirty India has become.

3. Ghoorna hamara hakk hai!

Sit on a bench and keep ogling at everyone who passes by. Some stare at women only and some have no such ‘gender bias’. They will stare at what they are wearing, try to guess the brand, comment on their style of walking, talking- heck even breathing! Why stare man? Don’t you have anything better to do? Staring at people makes them uncomfortable. It is like intruding into their personal space. Foreigners hold special importance in their eyes.

4.  Public space nahi ye to hamara ghar hai!

Be it sitting on a bench or grass, some of us can create a ruckus and behave as if we are at home. Some of us would step out in indecent clothes and sit as if everyone needs to have a full view of our insides. We would spread our legs on benches even if there are people who need to sit. We would put our bags in places where people could sit instead of putting them on the ground. We behave like the seat is our own private property, we will not share.

5. Chillao, shanti se baat thodi karte hai!

Do you know how loud all of us get when we talk with our earphones plugged in? Some of us Indians, are naturally loud like that. Even if we end up disturbing the people around us, we will continue screaming and shouting. Some would even go to the extent of using swear words for no reason at all. These people do not understand the importance of silence or peace which most people are looking for on a vacation.

It is like Kangana Ranaut says in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, “Zindagi jhand kar di hai!”

It is because of ‘some’ Indians who behave like it is stated above, ‘all’ Indians are branded as rude and ill-mannered.

Change yourself or don’t travel at all. Maybe we all deserve a break?
