Conventional Bollywood movies that are entertainment-centric are loosing out to biopics, as they often touch the audience’s heart. Bollywood since a few years, is focusing on biopics as it is evident that people are very much interested in it. This year too we are going to see lots of biopics!
Here are six biopics to look forward too:
Akshay Kumar has bagged this one and when it will hit the theatres it is going to flip the actor’s image. He is known for doing social roles, action and patriotic roles. Mogul is based on the life of Gulshan Kumar who was the music king of the industry.
Gulshan Kumar’s son, Bhushan Kumar shared some insights related to the project with Bombay Times, “I can think of no one better than Akshay to play him on screen. This is not just another film for us. Mogul is a very emotional project. This is a story, which will be narrated only once. Subhash is working on the script, and the focus is on getting it right. There are so many aspects of the subject, and it is important that the right emotional connect comes through.”
It will be based on the rise of Gulshan Kumar who started T-series, and his death how the way he was killed by terrorists.
2) Saina Nehwal:
Everyone knows her worldwide one – she is one of the finest badminton players till date. Shraddha Kapoor has already started preparing for the role of Saina Nehwal for the biopic. Kapoor is currently getting trained under the former badminton player Pullela Gopichand. The training is on to get the perfect look of a female badminton player.
According to the Times of India, the shooting has been put on hold till Shraddha perfects her game to look convincing on screen.
Soorma is making the rounds on social media as in the Bollywood industry for the very first time someone is making a biopic on the national sport of the country, hockey.
The world knows Sandeep Singh, who is also known as Flicker Singh, and his contribution to the field of hockey. Soorma will be directed by ‘Shaad Ali’, ‘Udta Punjab’ fame ‘Diljit Dosanjh’ has been roped in to play the role of Sandeep Singh who is remembered by many because of his game.
4) P.V. Sindhu:
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics in 2016 in Badminton. There were rumours that Sonu Sood had approached actress ‘Deepika Padukone’ for the role but nothing as such has been finalized yet. ‘Dabangg’ actor Sonu Sood will be acting in the biopic and also produce it. The script has been written. Only who will be essaying the role of the leading lady is yet to be decided.
According to The Hindu, “It’s a story of a girl who has inspired millions of Indians and given a message that everyone can dream big and not only dream but achieve it too by working hard. It’s a journey that everyone has to know and be inspired.”
Sonu Sood has confirmed on an award show that ‘P.V. Sindhu’ herself will be making a cameo in the film.
5) Abhinav Bindra:
He is one of the most known persons as he is one of the finest shooters in the world and also who won a Gold Medal at the Olympics.
Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan Kapoor has been roped in by Kannan Iyer for the biopic. Kapoor made his debut in ‘Mirzya’ but it failed to impress the audience, this might be his golden chance to get his career set.
According to the Times of India, the biopic is based on Abhinav Bindra’s autobiography, “A Shot at History: My Obsessive Journey to Olympic Gold.”
6) Arunima Sinha:
Very few people know who is Arunima Sinha. Her story goes like this – while on a train journey from Delhi to Lucknow, she was pushed out of the train when she was fighting with the robbers and as a result one of her legs got amputated. Arunima Sinha was the first Indian amputee to climb the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest. Though there have not been any official confirmation of who will be essaying the role of Sinha on screen, there are speculations that Kangana Ranaut has been approached and she is interested. Simultaneously, actor Amitabh Bachchan has also been approached for playing the role of her mentor.
It is not easy to make a biopic as it is to be made very close to reality. Which one are you looking forward to?
