Reading about these shocking sexual traditions in the world will stun you!
While sex might is a taboo in India and a lot of debates are raging currently on the topic with people actively trying to make sex a topic that does not need to brushed under the carpet – these traditions that are being practised around the world are mind-boggling!
1) The Mardudjara: Intimate cutting rituals to achieve manhood
This is one of the most strange rituals in the aborigines that includes a barbaric circumcision followed by the circumcised male ingesting his own foreskin!
After healing the penis is then cut on the underside many times uptil the scrotum. To purify this blood is then dripped into the fire – after this the male urinates from the underside of penis instead of his urethra! Imagine the pain the men go through due to such barbaric and inhumane practices! The risk of infection coupled with the no-access to advance medical risks puts these men in fatal situations.
2) The Trobrianders: The tribe where kids start having sex at 6
Papua, New Guinea
In this tribe you are not allowed to go for dinner together till you are not married. Premarital sex is not restrained, pre-marital food-sharing is!
Trobrianders’ females start having sex at the age of 6 to 8 years and the males have it at the age of 10 to 12 years. The girls go topless.
3) The Sambians : The semen – drinking tribe
Papua, New Guinea
In this ancient tribe the boys are removed from the presence of females at the age of seven for ten years. Why? To become a man! Their skin is pierced to remove any infection brought upon by women during these ten years. They are made to eat sugarcane in huge quantities due to which they get nose-bleeding and vomiting repeatedly.
Apart from this, the boys are required to ingest the semen of their elders, which according to them is for strength and sustainability!
After being introduced back in their tribes, during their wives’ menstrual cycle, once again they nose-bleed to free themselves from infection.
4) The Nepalese – A community where brothers share a wife
As per an article in Psychology Today, “Almost all of the few polyandrous societies practice what anthropologists call fraternal polyandry, where a group of brothers share a wife.”
In such practices there is little land available for farming and agriculture. Families having more than one son would face division of land, and each of the son will start having his own family resulting into further division.
The solution to let the family stay united according to these tribes in that one wife schedules time with each of the brothers, being the only one bearing sons.
5) Saut d’Eau: The city where you may witness rituals of voodoo and love
The waterfalls of Saut’d’Eau witness a bizarre ritual every year in July where people who practice voodoo art indulge into a worship for the goddess of love. A mud bath is made where they are naked and they wriggle in it. This mud bath contains the blood of sacrificed animals and their heads as well!
6) The Wodaabee: The tribe where men steal each others wives
This tribe from the West Africa is famous as men over there steal each others wives. This tribe arranges the marriage when the couple are infants and between cousins.
In the yearly festival called Gerewol, Wodaabee men wear elaborate makeup, costumes to impress the women and then steal new wives.
However in this tribe if the couple is able to steal undetected ( especially from a current husband who may not want to part with his wife) they become recognized socially and such marriages are called as ‘love marriage’.
7) Modern Iranian Culture: Where you can have a temporary marriage if you pay for it
Muslim practices are one of the most strictest regarding the sexual intercourse.
Muslim couples are only allowed to have sex only in the missionary position, for any other position to ask for a man is considered gross and insulting.
In countries like Iran the young couple would want to have sex before they’re ready to be married, they can have it by paying for it and request a ‘ temporary marriage’.
They are allowed to do a short ceremony which includes a contract dictating the amount of time they will be married.
Did you have any idea that such practices existed in the world around us? Strange but true!
