There is a dark side in each and every industry in the world, but without confirming news or incidents we do not have the right to accuse. Nor are we accusing the Bollywood industry. But here we have the facts from the mouths of our favourite Bollywood stars who have been through the offer of the casting couch.

For those who don’t know, ‘casting couch’ means that the actors or actresses are encouraged to do sexual favours in exchange for a role or a debut break in a big movie.

These artists have been a target of the so-called ‘casting couch’:

Ranveer Singh in an interview with NDTV revealed that incident when he was invited by a casting director to his home in Andheri. Singh described the man as a, ‘highly sleazy gentleman’.

All this took place without the man taking least interest in the ‘Ram-Leela’ actors portfolio.

The man told the actor has to be ‘smart and sexy’ so that he can get ahead in Showbiz.

Singh said, “Later I got to know what he was interested in. When I said ‘no’, he was heartbroken like a jilted lover. I later spoke with other strugglers who said the man had made similar propositions to them.”

Singh thinks that this is the reality of the industry.

I went for an audition. I had to act like a woman who had just received news of her husband’s demise. However, after doing it, I felt heavy at heart. I called Dibakar and narrated it to him. I also called him to my house meanwhile.”

The duo were good friends and knew each other well as they spoke of their personal relationships problems also.

Dibakar had been to the actresses house earlier also.

“Dibakar came to my house and commented that I had gained weight. He asked me to lift my shirt and show him my stomach. I didn’t like it. I told him I was in no mood for jokes. But he did not agree. I told him to leave.”

So, I told him that if I was not straight, I might have given it a thought, but I can’t do it. So yeah, the casting couch exists, but eventually, it’s your talent or potential as an actor or performer which would last. You don’t need to give it to such stuff.”

I have faced this (casting couch) down south and of course, I refused to give into that… honestly, I can only comment on it if I had encountered it in Bollywood. I don’t know if I should call it sheer luck.”

Always learn to take a stand, should you encounter something like this in the future. People in all industries may ask for sexual favours in return for promotions.
