Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is known to be selective about his movies. He stresses on the script to be read prior to signing a film. Most of the time, i.e., 25 out of 40 movies he worked in were the major commercial success.
Today as he turns 53, we bring you some unknown shades of his life.
But some movies which proved to be blockbuster at the box office were rejected by him. Do you know which ones?
Lawrence D’ Souza intended to bring the two immensely talented and budding actors Salman and Aamir on the silver screen for the first time together. The other role didn’t seem to impress Aamir a lot and he rejected the offer. The role was then offered to Sanjay Dutt and the movie was the year’s highest grossing one.
A tale of a lover whose love turns out to be an obsession. The character of Rahul was presented to Aamir Khan. Due to date issues he couldn’t commit and rejected the movie. Some also say that Aamir did not want to play a negative role. Shah Rukh Khan then accepted it and the movie was a hit.
Hum Aapke Hai Koun(1994):
This film cemented Salman Khan’s status as a superstar. It was actually offered to Aamir Khan. But he but he refused to do the film as he didn’t find the script very pleasing.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge(1995):
The milestone in Shah Rukh Khan’s career, Aamir Khan decided not to do the film. The same year, Aamir Khan’s Rangeela also hit the theatres. Aamir felt that he should have got Filmfare best actor award for Rangeela which eventually went to SRK for DDLJ. It is said that post this incident, he stopped attending award functions. Also, he rejected awards which came his way.
Dil To Pagal Hain(1997):
Another miss for the perfectionist. Aamir Khan rejected the script of the movie. The film with a threesome of most talented actors Karishma, Madhuri, and King of romance, SRK, the movie was destined to be a blockbuster.
Aamir Khan rejected this film and then the role went to Shah Rukh Khan. The movie was a romantic saga. A principal who hates the idea of love and the efforts of Raj Aaryan, a professor who knocks the door of Gurukul with love.
Dharmesh Darshan who previously worked with Aamir in 1996 blockbuster ‘Raja Hindustani’ wanted to cast him as the lead. Aamir said no due to the failure of ‘Mela’. Also directed by him. Dhadkan was the second highest grossing of that year.
This movie surely made audiences emotional with a beautiful message of humanity. However, Aamir Khan rejected it as he wanted to make some changes in the movie which were refused by the director of the movie. Finally, it went on to Salman Khan.
