Sonam Kapoor – Bollywood’s most fashionable diva is the daughter of ‘Jhakaass’ actor Anil Kapoor, has studied theatre and arts from the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore.
Before entering the film industry, she was an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) for Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee’s 2005 film ‘Black’. Kapoor was launched by SLB in 2007 in ‘Saawariya’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Even though the film did not perform well at the box office but she was nominated for the Filmfare award for the best female debut.
Talking about the ‘Neerja’ actress’s personal life, she has been independent since childhood. It is assumed that each and every girl is pampered by their parents in Bollywood but here there is a slight twist to the story as Sonam took up the job of a waitress at the age of 15. Apparently, it was her first job to supplement her pocket money. She was studying in Singapore and her parents provided her with a meagre allowance, since then after taking up the job she has never asked her parents for money. The actress is extremely vocal about this when she herself revealed on a starlet show, Simi Selects, explaining how it has never been an asset for herself to be a star actors daughter.
Sonam Kapoor has had tough times in her acting career, she was convinced by Bhansali for 1.5 years just to act and make a debut in ‘Saawariya’. She had never planned on becoming an actress. She had weight problems, lack of confidence, negativity, not sure of what to do and what not to but was helped by ‘Padmavat’ director who saw the potential within her. For the role in ‘Saawariya’ she lost 35 kgs!
Her acting was appreciated in ‘Neerja’. Her upcoming ventures are ‘Padman’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ and ‘Sanju’ in 2018.
