If you are bored of hearing about ‘homestays’, ’boutique hotels’, ‘resorts’ and other ‘Earthly’ things, you will soon be able to stay in space! And no, you do not have to become an astronaut for it.
Aurora Station, is going to be the first luxury space hotel that is set to open in 2021. A brainchild of Orion Span, a Houston-based company, this hotel will have a 35ft-by-14ft interior.
The hotel will be able to accommodate four travellers and two crew members, for a 12-day stay aboard Aurora Station. The cost per night will be around $791,666 or ₹5,14,30,581! Reservations have already begun by paying $80,000 or ₹51,97,200.
It may sound unbelievable at first but this is the future – a future we have now begun to see.
In a press release, Orion Span said it would take “what was historically a 24-month training regimen to prepare travellers to visit a space station and streamline it to three months, at a fraction of the cost”.
Furthermore, the company stated, “Enjoy the exhilaration of zero gravity … gaze at the northern and southern aurora through the many windows, soar over their hometowns, take part in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit (which they can take home with them as the ultimate souvenir), revel in a virtual reality experience on the holodeck, and stay in touch or live stream with their loved ones back home via high-speed wireless internet access.”
Before embarking on the space hotel, the people who are willing to stay will be given a tutorial on orbital mechanics, spaceflight etc.
“We want to get people into space because it’s the final frontier for our civilization,” Orion Span’s founder, Frank Bunger, told Bloomberg.
The announcement of Aurora Station comes as no surprise with increasing commercialisation of space – the interests of companies in the next frontier are growing quickly.
What do you think about this? Would you like to go on a space adventure?
