For a long time now we have known that actor Ranveer Singh was finalized for the role of Kapil Dev by ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ director ‘Kabir Khan’ who in his maximum movies casts ‘Salman Khan’ in the lead roles.
Khan confirmed a film based on the 1983 world cup which India won under the captaincy of Indian Cricket Team All Rounder ‘Kapil Dev’. There were speculations that Kabir Khan had a fallout with his favourite ace actor ‘Salman Khan’ and apart from that their combination of ‘Tubelight’ failed to work. There have also been reports that if everything would have been fine then Kabir Khan would have signed Salman Khan only for this role in his biopic. But this might all be completely baseless.
But the director of ‘83’ has cleared the air on this news is that Ranveer Singh was his first and last choice for the movie. ‘83 is a biopic on cricketer Kapil Dev’s life and super-talented actor of the Bollywood industry, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has been roped in to play the coach of the Indian Cricket Team, as per some reports in the media.
Nawaz and Kabir have worked together twice before, first in terrorism drama ‘New York’ and then when Nawaz played the role of a Pakistani journalist in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
From the makers of ‘83, there has not been any official announcement.
The shooting of the film will start later this year as the lead actor is shooting for another movie, ‘Simmba’ and the makers are yet to finalize the casting of the biopic since many actors would be needed due to its theme. No dates of release have been announced, but it can release in the middle of August and Diwali next year.
