When We Don’t Give Up Even During The Worst Times…

A  South Korean lady, who survived by eating rats and frogs, became a celebrity…

Kim Ha-Na, a North Korean girl, escaped from the country at the age of fifteen.

North Korea is a poor and starving country. There, people often become cannibals. There are many harrowing incidents of cannibalism that have come to light over the period of time.

Kim used to beg for food. She lived as a ‘kotjebi’ – a Korean term for a child beggar. But, there were times when she did not get any food as alms. At last, she had to dig into garbage bins to find something to eat. Once when she didn’t find any food for a week, she was compelled to eat frogs and rats out of hunger.

When she was thirteen, she decided that she won’t live in North Korea. She tried many times to escape from there – it was always deadly to even attempt it. For at least three times she almost died in her attempt to escape the country!

At last, after two years of continuous struggle she succeeded in escaping from North Korea. She crossed the North Korean border and went to South Korea. There also she had to beg for food. But, she survived without giving up.

After struggling painfully for many years, she took part in a reality show, named ‘Master Chef’, because of which she became a popular celebrity in South Korea. She was the winner of this show!

In an interview she said, “More than winning the show, not losing and not giving-up was more important to me.”

Those who cry in the difficult times, they should learn a lesson from the people like Kim Ha-Na.  If we do not lose hope, patience and determination we can surely get a way out of our difficulties. Where there is a will, there is a way.
