The former Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Rakesh Maria who cracked the 1993 Bombay Serial blasts case is an interesting man. Maria then became the Deputy Commissioner of Police and later a Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) of Mumbai. Rakesh Maria also solved the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar blasts case. Maria even successfully interrogated the terrorist, Ajmal Kasab and solved the case.
The series will be focused on the life of the former Commissioner, his experiences, work and his career. It will be developed by the director of Raazi and Talvar, Meghna Gulzar. Raazi was based on the novel, Calling Sehmat, by author Harinder Sikka. Talvar was based on the controversial murder in Delhi of, Arushi Talvar, which is one of the most sensational murder s until now. She is known for making intense movies and knows how to connect with the audiences. The market of series is gaining speed after Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Sacred Games’ which was released last month on Netflix.
Who will be playing what and moreover who will be playing the role of Rakesh Maria, is a big question. Meghna Gulzar will be putting someone tough, who can make an impact on the minds and hearts of the audiences.
Meghna Gulzar said in a statement, “Rakesh Maria’s life-experiences and his prolific career in law-enforcement are a powerful lens to explore the chronology of crime and terror, in our society – as a city, as well as, as a country and a geographical region. The potential of this content is limitless, and that is supremely exciting for me.”
Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Vice Chairman, Reliance Entertainment, praised Meghna and said she is one of the country’s most talented young directors. “We are delighted to partner with one of the most distinguished law enforcement officers of our times, Rakesh Maria, to present the courageous accomplishments of his career, and the unacknowledged contributions of thousands of members of the Mumbai Police, safeguarding the security of our city 24x7x365,” Jhunjhunwala added.
Rakesh Maria’s reaction, “It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant and sensitive director like Meghna Gulzar, and a production house of the calibre of Reliance Entertainment’s Phantom Films. More than the nostalgia, it’s also a valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds,”
The making of the series is official, the cast and crew will be decided after some time.
