A couple in Karnataka who are all set to be married this year have come up with a unique wedding invitation. Their wedding cards look like voter-ids and there is a strong reason behind this.
The couple, Siddappa Doddachikkannanavar and Jyoti want to encourage everyone to vote in the upcoming elections on May 12 in Karnataka.
The couple resides in Hangal, Haveri district. They hope that their effort to make people vote will make a difference in the upcoming polls.
“I wanted to do something unique for my wedding to promote Kannada. When I discussed the same with my friend Karibasappa Gondi, a constable, he suggested that we should do something to encourage voting keeping in mind the assembly elections. With the support of my friend Channabasappa, we designed a wedding card which resembles the voter ID card. Even the fonts and style are the same,” Sidappa told Bangalore Mirror.
He has an activist an Indian railways employee in Goa. The couple took permission from the District Collector’s office to print their wedding card exactly like the voter ids. About 1200 such cards were printed.
On the wedding card, in place of the person’s photo, we see the photo of the couple. Also in place of the serial number of the voter id, we see a number created with the couple’s initials and the date of the wedding – ‘SJMRG27042018 ‘. The couple will get married on April 27, 2018.
There is a small message on the card that says, ‘Your vote is valuable’, also urging the guests to not sell their votes.
It is a unique step taken by the couple who is socially aware and have done their bit to encourage voting.
