Alexander the Great wished to keep his hands out of the coffin at his funeral…

When he was dying, Alexander the Great expressed his wish to put his dead body on display for the entire city and to keep both his hands out of the coffin, on the day of his funeral. It was the advice of his guru.

Alexander told his son to conduct his funeral in an elegant way and make his dead body wear the most expensive clothes in the world. His son asked him that why spend a fortune when all that he would wear will destroy with him? Alexander found this to be very shocking.  His own son was questioning his last demand, that too to spend from the money he had earned in his whole life.

Alexander’s guru was present at that time. He asked him, “Have you understood now? You came into this world with empty hands and you will go empty-handed.”

It opened his eyes, he said in broken voice, “Do as my guru advised. So the world can see that the Alexander the Great who had a greater empire, who stored diamonds, rubies and other gems in a large quantity became penniless at the end. Nothing is going to go with him. Alexander the Great also died empty handed.”

Many kings and rich and noble people were present at his funeral but nobody understood his last wish to keep his hands out of the coffin.

No one understands the simple thing that we come empty-handed and we have to leave this world empty-handed. Otherwise, no one would ever get involved in scams amounting to billions of rupees in the stock-market or in the banks. ‘The gentlemen’ who hesitate to donate even a hundred rupees to the poor with their bank account having billions and trillions of rupees would have behaved differently if they understood this simple philosophy.

Do you understand it?
