As most of us began the New Year with a bang – WhatsApp experience a major breakdown. Why? Probably because Indians used the popular app to send across Happy New Year messages which resulted in the outage.
For one whole hour – from 12 am to 1 am – WhatsApp was down in many parts of the world. The hashtags, ‘#whatsappdown’ and ‘#whatsappnotworking’ began trending on Twitter as many users expressed their angst online. Here is what some of them said:

After Whats App restored services at 12:40 am, it crashed once again.
WhatsApp has one of its major markets in India which is constantly growing. Imagine the number of Indians it would take to crash the app!
The services were restored with WhatsApp apologising for the inconvenience caused. The issue which the users faced was that they were unable to receive any messages. Messages did get sent, showing a single tick but no user could receive new messages.
The crashing of WhatsApp doesn’t sound very new, does it?
