Hrithik Roshan, who is one of the most versatile actors in the industry, celebrates his 44th birthday today. He entered the industry in 2000, playing a double role in his debut ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ which in itself holds a record in the LIMCA books of records for winning 102 awards! He was also seen in minor roles in three films directed by his maternal grandfather, J. Om Prakash, first of which was Aasha in 1980.
Hrithik used to assist his father Rakesh Roshan in the movies before entering the industry. 17 years of his career have proven him to be a real-time risk taker. He went on to play a terrorist leaving aside the romantic hero image, for ‘Mission Kashmir’ and ‘Fiza’ – though the films did not perform well, his acting skills were appreciated. Till now the ‘Krrish’ actor has received 145 nominations out of which he has won 136 times.
Roshan is the ultimate and one of the best dancers of the industry but at the age of 21, he was diagnosed with ‘Scoliosis’ (the spine curves sideways) which means that he would never be able to dance again! He was advised not to pursue acting as a profession because that would bring strain on his spinal curvature and make him immobile. He once told liveinstyle.com, “I have had physical pains since I was very, very young. My attendance in school was low because I had scoliosis (curvature of the spine). My basic constitution was really weak; my knees would hurt and I would wake up every morning in deep pain. In the seventh standard, I missed so many classes that my class teacher told me they would fail me if my attendance was less than 70 percent.”
‘Duggu’ has proven his worth playing various roles like of a differently able boy in ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, then a classy thief in ‘Dhoom 2’, the great Mughal king Akbar in ‘Jodha Akbar’, spy in ‘Bang Bang’, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in ‘Agneepath’ and then last but not the least a blind man who seeks revenge in ‘Kaabil’ etc. The changing point in his career was one movie which totally portrayed a different side of his acting, Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Lakshya’ which was not a success at the box office but later it earned the title of a cult movie.
Years back when father ‘Rakesh Roshan’ was shot by gangsters, the ‘Guzaarish’ actor even thought of quitting his Bollywood career at the time of his peak.
Hrithik is the fifth Indian Bollywood star and the youngest celebrity to attain a wax statue at the age of 37 in Madame Tussauds museum in London. Amazing dancer, versatile actor, father of 2, controversial at some time Hrithik Roshan proves his worth in these 17 years of his career.
Happy birthday to him!
