Mohammad Rafi And His Soulful Voice Will Always Be Remembered!

Mohammad Rafi’s name will remain etched in our minds forever due to the beautiful music he has given to the world. Today on his 93rd birth anniversary we remember him through his music.

Born on December 24, 1924, Mohammad Rafi was a one of the most loved and popular singers of India. He has sung songs, qawwalis, ghazals and bhajans majorly in Hindi. He has also sung a number of songs in various moods for the Hindi film industry that became extremely popular with the people in India.

He has sung 7405 songs in various languages in his lifetime! However in an interview with the BBC he claimed to have sung over 25,000 songs!

He was also honoured with a Padma Shri award by the Indian government.

Rafi, who learnt classical music from Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan, Pandit Jiwan Lal Mattoo and Firoze Nizami struggled to make his place in the Hindi film industry and spent difficult days during the beginning of his career in Mumbai.

The famous singer, Mohammad Rafi passed away on 31st July, 1980 in Mumbai due to a massive heart attack. His last song was for the movie Aas Paas, which he had recorded with Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
