The theme of ‘blackmailing’ in the Bollywood industry has been like a goldmine, each and every time the story, plot and characters take such a U-turn that the audiences have altogether a different type of a thrilling experience.

The ‘blackmailing’ movies took grip during the time of 1980’s and the audiences loved all these kinds of formula movies.

1) Bezubaan:

1982’s super hit movie ‘Bezubaan’, directed by Pranlal Mehta, is based on the theme of blackmailing. Reena Roy tries to hide things from her husband ( played by Shashi Kapoor) about her one-night stand in the past and Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of a creepy photographer who blackmails her.

2) Fida:

Shahid Kapoor made his debut in ‘Ishq-Vishq’, but his role of a die-hard lover boy is noticed in this movie. Fida released in 2004, also starring Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor who put Shahid Kapoor in a conspiracy and start blackmailing him. Just after that when the tables turn it is Shahid Kapoor’s turn to blackmail the duo. Fida is a romantic thriller which takes a deep twist in the end.

3) Ugly:

Directed by Anurag Kashyap who is known for his dark movies, ‘Ugly’ released in 2013 is one of his best movies. The star cast of the movie is not A-league, but it involves Ronit Roy who can run the movie on his shoulders. The story revolves around the kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl, how each and every character is trying hide his/her guilt after they are involved in the conspiracy. Ugly showcases the greed of a human being apart from the original theme of ‘blackmailing’.

Recently, Irrfan Khan’s movie ‘Blackmail’ has released in the theatres directed by ‘Delhi-Belly’ fame, Abhinay Deo. The movie is about a married couple, the husband’s mediocre life and how he is desperate to get some spark in his married life and one fine day he discovers his wife is having an affair with someone else, so he starts blackmailing them both and extorting money from them.
