Barring a few areas in the extreme Southern part of Mumbai, no one in the city follows traffic rules that are set for pedestrians. Yes, pedestrians! Even those who do not drive have to follow certain traffic rules while crossing the road.
There is something called ‘zebra crossing’ – the rule says that the cars have to stop before the zebra crossing and keep it free for the people to cross the road on foot. Does that happen in India? Hardly.
Also, there is a signal for people who are walking on the road. Only when it turns green, you are supposed to cross the road. While this signal may not be present at all places, use your common sense and cross the road when the signal has turned red for the vehicular traffic.
Mumbai’s Police took up an innovative and very witty approach and tweeted this video to make people aware of traffic rules:

In the video, you’ll see a cat in a different country, who waits for the traffic light to turn green and only then crosses the road! Cute yet appealing to the youth. A good move isn’t it?
