She Donated Her Bone Marrow To Toddler Who Was Then A Flower Girl At Her Wedding

Sometimes in life miracles happen. And then, those miracles are celebrated with so much love and magic that they spread across the world and bring a smile to the faces of millions of people.

One such story is this one.

3-year-old Skye Savren-McCormick was given a 10 per cent chance of survival by doctors after she was diagnosed with cancer. Without a bone marrow transplant, the little Skye whose life had barely begun, wouldn’t be able to live.

Skye was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia and had to undergo blood and platelet transfusions everyday. For 10 months, the little baby had to stay in the hospital.

That is when, how it happens in the fairy tales, 26-year-old ryals stepped in. Ryals, who was in college had decided to become a bone marrow donor. She felt lost in life but when she knew that she could save a life, she found purpose in life once again.

“That changed everything, it became my number-one priority from that point on,” Ryals told CNN.

In 2016, the surgery happened. But Skye and Ryals never met then. And the troubles for Skye did not end with that transplant. Right after the transplant, Skye developed another form of cancer, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder. Once again she was fighting death but that brave little warrior, survived.

How did Skye and Ryals meet? Shortly after the transplant, through the NGO, Be The Match, Skye sent a letter to the family telling them how she had found purpose in life again and she received a response from Skye’s family, both anonymously. They decided to get in touch with each other – Ryals from Alabama and Skye from California.

When it was Skye’s birthday Ryals invited her to be her flower girl at her wedding and even though the chances of that happening seemed bleak, it did happen after all. At Ryals’ wedding rehearsal they met for the first time.

The beautiful little flower girl and the bold and young bride, sent out a powerful message to the world. They both, in a way, saved each other.
