How frequently do we hear news about women being sexually assaulted – about them being victims of the lust of men who continue to lurk in every corner of the planet like predators waiting to pounce on their prey?
This time, we are hearing something entirely different and motivating. An 18-year-old woman named Priyanka Singha Roy, from West Bengal, beat up three men who were attempting to sexually assault her, according to a report in the Hindustan Times. The incident happened in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
The three accused – all in their mid-twenties were identified as Amit Sahani, Dip Mandal and Bhaskar Mandal. They are now arrested after they were caught in an area named Sainthia.
The 18-year-old bold woman is a student of Sainthia Girls’ High School and is appearing for her Class 12 board exams. Her bravery is a powerful example.
The accused attempted to assault her only 500 metres away from her home, in a deserted alley. They passed lewd remarks, blocked her path and one person held her hand. What followed after wasn’t something that usually happens. The girl beat these guys up as she is a trained martial artist and practices Taekwondo.
When people gathered on hearing the commotion, they found the three men on the ground.
The daughter’s mother while speaking to Hindustan Times said, “My daughter is a keen student of martial arts. The youths were not aware of her skills. My daughter initially asked them to restrain themselves, but they paid no heed and continued with their lewd behaviour. Then she beat them up.”
Twitter has been applauding the woman’s courage. Akshay Kumar also tweeted words of appreciation.
She is #PriyankaSinghaRoy from Sainthia,Bengal. Was out on her cycle with her younger sister. 3 men accosted her. She beat them up with such ferocity that people had to rescue them! This 18 year old practices #TaeKwonDo & is a class 12 student.

Sometimes, women fall prey to such attackers because they aren’t confident that they can defend themselves. One’s physical strength plays a much lesser role than one’s mental strength.
Learning simple self-defence skills is not a difficult task. Let’s take inspiration from this 18-year-old!
