People in India have not heard of this ‘Steel Man’ much, his real name is Narendra Singh Chaudhary. The true patriot of India and one of the finest war heroes of India, he alone dismantled 256 bombs! Unbelievable right?
There is a reason his name was the ‘Steel Man of India’ – it was because he could survive in extreme conditions. It was a cakewalk for him to climb fatal India terrains. Chaudhary had a record of not falling sick ever, and he would stay without the necessities like food and water for a long time. He was an expert in diffusing the bombs and probably the best India had. Narendra Singh Chaudhary had so much patience to deal with anything, which is why he was named, the ‘Steel Man’.
Chaudhary hails from the Pali district in the state of Rajasthan. This is very inspiring for the people of India as the ‘Steel Man’ had joined the army without a formal training at a young age. The bomb expert was always assigned to Naxal crisis-prone areas, which were heavily mined. He was always in the hit list of the Naxals.
Whenever he was working on dismantling a bomb, he would always make his team stand far away, facing risks all alone.
If someone would ask what his weakness was, his fellow soldiers would say, ‘a cup of tea’!
But he is no more. He passed away on May 12, 2016. The story behind his death is very sad and tragic. Chaudhary always said that it would be the bomb that would take and he died while performing a simulated test. He unknowingly picked up the wrong wire of the detonator, and this resulted in the blast on his face, that killed him instantly. This terrifying incident could have been obstructed, if the material used in the stimulated bomb test would not have been fatal.
This is the story of India’s finest bomb diffusing expert who would embrace all the pain and face all the challenges coming in his way. Hats off to the martyr, Narendra Singh Chaudhary.
