If there is something that naturally puts a glow on your face without the need for make-up, it is healthy skin. While flawless skin is a myth in this time and age, better skin than the one you are used to is possible with a daily skin-care routine. Using a face wash is not enough.
Depending on the season, you should alter it. Like in winters you will need to moisturise your skin more than usual, while in summer, you might need to reapply sunscreen for the second time in the day.
These are the five-steps anyone can follow for healthy skin:
Buy a foaming cleanser or cleansing milk depending on your skin type and cleanse your face with it every day or every other day (you have to try and see what frequency suits you). Just take a few drops of the cleanser on cotton and cleanse your face with it, going about in circles. This will help remove all the grime and dirt that is stuck on your skin and cannot be removed only by washing your face.
Again, exfoliate according to the season. In winters, over exfoliation might dry out your skin, so see what works for you. Buy a scrub which is easily available in the market and rub on your skin with light pressure. Rub in circles for around two minutes. Don’t overdo it.
When you look into the mirror you will see two tones in your skin or even three or four. A toner helps even out your skin tone and texture over a regular period of use. Buy a toner from the market and once again using a small piece of cotton, use it on your face after exfoliating.
Do not skip this step. Our skin needs food – a good face moisturiser will give you just that and prevent your skin from drying out. Check the amount you use as per the season. You can choose an oil-based or a water-based moisturiser as per your skin type.
This is the most important step which most people skip. Photodamage from the sun causes our skin to age. This is why you need to apply sunscreen every single time you step out and reapply after sweating or when you wash your face. You need sunscreen even in the monsoon and winters (it is a myth that you need it only in summers). If you use sunscreen, your skin will be very less damaged in the long run. Buy a good one (La Shield for example).
You can also add a night or an under-eye cream in this routine. Wash your face with a face wash before you sleep as it helps clean the dirt that is stuck on your skin in the day. Do not sleep with your make-up on. It harms the skin. Use a cleanser.
