It is very common to hear youngsters working odd jobs to save up for college in the United States. But when you make a kind act to a complete stranger, going out of your own way – it is uncommon.
A waitress’ act of helping an elderly man cut his ham had gone viral on the internet. The elderly man, Adrien Charpentier, suffers from muscle weakness and cannot cut his own ham. So when he asked, the 18-year-old waitress Evoni Williams, patiently cut it from him in spite of the morning rush and her chef calling out her name to pick up food and serve it to other customers.
When Laura Wolf, a customer who was waiting at the Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, captured the moment and uploaded it on her social media handle, Williams’ gesture was appreciated by a lot of people.
Her story was a ray of light in a world that sometimes seems full of darkness. It is easy to help someone when you are expecting to gain something out of it. But Evoni Williams simple act deserved appreciation.
La Marque’s Mayor Bobby Hocking saw the post and it touched his heart, according to a report in CNN. In addition to the Mayor, Texas Southern University President Austin A. Lane also saw the post. Many of the college’s alumni saw Williams viral story on the social media and extended help, generating a $16,000 scholarship.
Williams plans to study Business Administration at the university and dreams of opening her own salon or restaurant.
