We don’t have to look very far to believe in surreality when we are on Earth. And these incredible landforms in China are proof that nature is the greatest artist. Unbelievably beautiful, this naturally occurring landform is referred to as, ‘Zhangye Danxia’ – it is an entire geological park in Zhangye city of Gansu province in China. Danxia means a rose red cloud (much like the area’s colour).
Looking at the picture, you must be wondering how did such rainbow colours get ‘painted’ on the mountain. There is science behind that.
The landform was formed due to the erosion of red sandstone combined with several weathering & erosion factors. Geologists believe that the vibrant colours and patterns are formed due to the folding and layering of oceanic crust, over the period of time.
These smooth and sharp rocks are several hundred metres high and constantly differ in topography. And you won’t believe the expanse of these landforms! They spread across 300-510 square kilometres!
It is one of the most beautiful and must-see places in China! Put it on your bucket list.
