Vijayan and Mohana both are tea shop owners and have visited 16 countries till now, find out how here.
Dreams should be chased and accomplished. If someone does not fulfill their dream and pursue nothing in life, is that really called a life?
This couple from Kochi who owns a tea shop and has travelled more than 16 countries, and only 1 last dream destination is left.
Vijayan is a 65 year old wayside tea seller in Kerala’s Kochi. Vijayan is a tea seller for more than forty years. Vijayan has a dream of visiting many places before he gets more old along with his wife Mohana.
Both the duo have worked harder than every single passing day to fulfill their dream. The couple till now has visited 16 countries including UAE, Egypt, Britain, France and Austria.
Vijayan while talking about his obsession of travel said, “I got the obsession in travelling from my dad; he took me to different places since I was 6 years old. We went to Madurai, Palani and many other places. Those travel memories with my dad helped me unleash my dreams.”
After the death of Vijayan’s father life changed for him as he was entwined in responsibilities. In the year 1998, he resumed travelling when he accompanied a man as his cook on a pilgrimage to the Himalayas.
Vijayan says that he never travels without his wife Mohana, who joined him 40 years back. The duo’s life revolved around Kochi, but after that the couple has explored exotic cities, and that too all on their own. Mohana’s favourite place is Switzerland. Vijayan wishes to visit the Nile river once again.
The couple has explained how they travel. It is impossible to travel like this if you have only one source of income from a tea shop so both of them have travelled through the help of bank loans. The couple has financial insecurities, would take a loan, travel, come back and spend the next three years repaying the debt they owe, and then again the cycle would go on.
Vijayan says, “I save rupees 300 a day for our tickets and spend just 10 dollars or less on picking up some tiny souvenirs from the places of visit. We don’t spend anything more.”
The couple is wishing to visit the United States of America next. Their last trip was to Europe in 2012.
Vijayan shares an instance, “Once I was completely stuck without money, then one of my old acquaintances who resides in South Africa offered me stay and food there. So I am sure that I will be able to visit the US”.
Vijayan is only stubborn about one thing, that he will never travel leaving his wife behind.
