A small beautiful mountain village in Switzerland named Albinen, is doing something very unusual and has taken the internet by storm. Albinen’s authorities would pay you 25,000 Swiss Francs (or 16.5lakh Indian Rupees) to reside there. Yes you heard me right!
The village wants to increase its population from the current 240. And if you move there, you are definitely getting this amount. Albinen village is located in the scenic Canton of Valais.
According to a report in ‘The Local’, the council anytime soon will be voting for the new initiative, with only one aim – to repopulate the community. The scheme of the council includes that each new adult will be paid the fee along with an additional 10,000 Swiss francs per child.
Back in the 1900’s this village highest settlers were around 380 and according to the news report in ‘Swiss News Agencies’ previous resident families with children left the village due to one reason that Albinen’s school was closed.
Albinen is at an altitude of 4,300 ft. Maximum village area comprises of forest and farmland and only 3% of the area has buildings and roads. First language to learn in the region is German. Albinen is just 30 minutes away from the city with many amenities like a spa, thermal bath complex and Europe’s largest medical wellness centre. The village is completely crime free, peaceful area with loving people.
There are a set of terms and conditions for the people who decide to settle there. They’ve to be under the age of 45 and will have to live in Albinen for at least 10 years. The residents are also required to purchase or build a property to live there of at least 200,000 Swiss francs and this should not be a holiday home but their first home. If the residents decide to vacant the house before the time period ends then they will have to pay back the money to Albinen’s administration.
Albinen’s council has calculated that its economy will get stable if people come to live there following these terms and conditions.
There is another town like Albinen in Italy’s Candela where the terms and conditions are a bit different but offers you money to live there.
