Sacred Games which was released in July on Netflix is still creating a lot of buzz. The web series that is the first Netflix original from India, is being loved by many. The genre of the series was very general which connected with the audience, plus they enjoyed that it was in ‘Hindi’.
The series is based on a novel ‘Sacred Games’ by Vikram Chandra. All the episodes are available in 20 different languages and in 191 countries, so the show has garnered positive reviews from everywhere. The first 5 minutes of the show will keep you captivated that is the USP of it, it is fast-paced and not boring. Some have called it graphic and very violent but that has not deterred people from watching it.
Here are some lesser known facts about the first Netflix original from India:
1) Radhika Apte refused to work with Anurag Kashyap:
Radhika Apte who plays the role of a RAW agent in the film did not want to work with Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap said in an interview with the Indian Express, “Radhika refused to work with me. She chose to work with Vikram, who is this young good looking guy, whom every girl has a crush on.”
Apte has previously worked with Motwane and she has a better rapport with him than Kashyap.
2) Netflix offered to make the series in English:
Both the directors wanted to do their series in the Hindi language, they refused for the English language which was offered by Netflix. Kashyap and Motwane believed in making content in a regional language with an Indian story.
3) The actor playing the younger version of Ganesh Gaitonde has done a film:
There are several scenes from flashback where the childhood version of Ganesh Gaitonde is played by the ‘Lion’ fame ‘Sunny Pawar’. His acting in Lion was praised a lot.
4) Sacred Games is a co-project:
This is one of the biggest reasons the show is successful because Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane directed it together. The duo collaborated and things were on track for them. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has worked for the seventh time with Kashyap whereas Apte is more comfortable with Motwane. Such instances change the shape of the series and new talents were brought on board.
5) Kubra Sait had a difficult time but the result was worth it:
Kubra Sait who plays the role of ‘Kukoo’ a transgender who plays the love interest of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She had a difficult time shooting for her scenes which were explicit. There was a point when Anurag Kashyap had to get her drunk to get the best out of some scenes, and the result was spectacular.
