What Has Happened To The Film Padmavati?

2017’s most awaited, highly talked about film – Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati was postponed due to political reasons and the elections in Gujarat. Some reports suggest that the movie might get CBFC clearance today.

Padmavati makers are eyeing on the month of January or February-mid. However, in January there are many big movies releasing and in February-mid there is John Abraham’s movie Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, which is based on the nuclear missile tests in India when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the PM of the country. Compared to Padmavati, Parmanu is a small-budget film and it is likely that Padmavati makers will schedule their release in February 2018.

There were non-stop protests for banning the movie all over the country. The BJP suggested Bhansali to leave the movie on historians’ analysis and wait for their reviews. Recently the state of Goa banned the movie as the government of state is fearing a law and order problem.

Sometimes it is to be wondered that what if there was no rumour of a dream sequence between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmini? Bhansali even posted a video on social media clearly stating that there is no dream sequence as such and after that arranged a special screening for the top notch journalists of the country, this move was also not welcomed by many people.

Padmavati is still pending in the CBFC process, the board is yet to review the film which is hanging in the middle.

The whole film fraternity had come out in support of the movie since everyone felt the same that artistic expressions are being curbed by political organizations of the country. No parties were ready to see the movie even once. The protests turned violent a the body of a man was found hanging at Padmavati fort in Jaipur. The makers recently released a statement that the release date of the movie was postponed indefinitely.

There are hopes that Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh will release but when and at what cost that is not known.
