Netaji Subhashchandra Bose was about to appear in one more exam when he returned back to India after passing the I.C.S. exam in England. (As currently in independent India, students have to pass U.P.S.C. examination to become an I.A.S. officer, in British India there was an examination called I.C.S. and candidates had to go to England to appear in the exam.)
Netaji went to appear for the exam. He read the paper carefully. He got angry reading a sentence in the question paper.
There was a question in the question paper which said, ‘Indian soldiers are generally dishonest.’ And the students were supposed to translate it.
All other students were busy in attending the questions but, for Netaji it was unbearable. He called the examiner and asked him to omit the question from the question paper. The examiner denied and tried to frighten him telling him that he will lose the job if he argues more.
Netaji stood up and tore the question paper. He said, “I don’t want your job. I will choose to die starving instead of writing something like this for the great soldiers of my country.” And he came back without giving the exam.
Those people who sell their motherland for money, who play dirty and corrupt politics that destroys people’s lives should be reminded what’s right every day through stories like this one.
