Worried About Your Long Distance Relationship? Here Are Some Tips

Long distance relationships: the thought of staying away from each other for months, even years at a stretch is bothering enough. What happens when you really have to be in different cities – sometimes different countries and still make it work?

Will it work? Let’s be honest. It will be difficult to continue things. But it is not impossible and you don’t have to break up.

1. Give Virtual Space

Giving space to each other in a relationship is an aspect of a healthy relationship. Don’t expect your partner to immediately respond to every text you leave. Since you both aren’t sharing physical space, virtual becomes your reality. Don’t fret over every unanswered text.

2. Celebrate Everything

You are happy or excited about something. If you achieved something or got the promotion, share it with your partner and celebrate the event virtually being with each other. It is not as great as celebrating in person but sharing the joys will strengthen your bond.

3. Video Call Often:

Texting and making phone calls is a must but sometimes you want much more than hearing. Seeing is important. Connecting with Skype is the best way to talk to each other face to face. Take out time for your partner in your busy schedule. Understand that talking face to face, even if it is virtual, is important.

4. Virtual Dates:

Yes, you heard that right. As bizarre it might sound, virtual dates actually happen and you can make up for dates. You can go on a movie date or a dinner date together. But how’s that possible?

You can do it through Skype watching the same movie at your place and discussing the same or have dinner while skyping with each other in a romantic way. Dress up, fill a glass of wine and call.

5. Be Open And Honest:

When you are in a long distance relationship, it is easy to hide things and it is also very normal to feel insecure.  A lot of questions run through your mind – is my partner cheating on me? has he/she found someone else? But a healthy relationship requires honesty and transparency to grow stronger so better open up with your partner and talk about things that change your mind. Even if it is something that they won’t like, you must say it.

6. Prioritise:

Prioritising does not mean talking to each other the whole day and doing no other work. But it is important to make your partner feel like a priority. Assign your time from your busy schedule so that you both can manage to talk to each other because communication is a must to keep a relationship healthy. Be there for them in their bad times. At times, leave everything else for a while and just talk to your partner. Just because you are in a different place now, doesn’t mean you forget about them.

Nothing is impossible. So even being together even though actually being at faraway places.
